I’ve been having a rough time with sleeping lately. Once I finally fall asleep the least little things wake me up then I have to start all over again. This can’t be a normal thing right?

Members overwhelmingly related to struggles with falling and staying asleep, describing fragmented sleep patterns where they wake every 2-4 hours, often due to bathroom trips, pain, or hypersensitivity to noise, and then struggle to fall back asleep. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them, including medical marijuana or CBD/THC edibles, prescription medications like Ambien, trazodone, or hydroxyzine, sleep hygiene practices such as limiting caffeine after 2-3 PM, turning off electronics an hour before bed, using sound machines or sleep apps like Calm, and supplements like melatonin, valerian root, or magnesium glycinate. A recurring theme was the exhausting cycle of chronic sleep deprivation common in MS, met with solidarity, humor, and encouragement to keep experimenting until finding what works, with many emphasizing that staying active during the day and maintaining a consistent bedtime routine can significantly improve sleep quality.

I don't eat chocolate before bed. I'm on Cymbalta and gabapentin for pain. I generally sleep 11 hours a night. Earplugs and a fan!

As long as I maintain my swimming on a regular basis, my sleep pattern is decent, except for a nightly potty break, however if I miss more than 2-3 days, my sleep pattern can get broken up. That provides me incentive to not let my swimming to lapse to much!!

Yes, it can. Exercise, meditation, a regular bedtime routine (like training babies) all help. I use an app. called aura and occasionally take 1valerian root capsule- herbal, non-addictive, and I wake up refreshed.

Try relaxing breathing. It really helps 🙂

I do breathing exercises to fall asleep. It does help. If you wake up trying taking slow deep breaths and then slowly release the breath through your mouth. 🙂
