Hi All Has anyone felt like their entire skeleton is made of ice? My skin is warm but I’m so cold from this feeling. I hurt all over. What can I do?
Thanks for sharing your experience. This feeling is more than being chilled to the bone. It’s like your bones have turned to ice and the feeling over your body is like when you put your hands in ice water and they hurt it’s so cold. My skin is normal to the touch. I guess it’s one of the many individual MS phenomenons.
An electric blanket seems counter intuitive. It’s a change in temperature either way that starts it for me. But I just try different things until I find something that works. Long socks filled with rice and something nice to smell such as a couple of drops of essential oil and tied at the top can be popped in the microwave for up to a minute work if it didn’t get bad immediately. Laying on my side with one down my back is a good way to fall asleep. I just keep trying things.
Thank you for the reply. I’m so glad someone knows what I’m talking about, even neuro is puzzled. I haven’t tried an electric blanked because I don’t have one but that’s a great idea. Normally I’ll lay under piles of covers shivering until eventually I fall asleep. When I wake up I’m warm but heavy like you described. Sometimes I wear layers outside in the summer. Winter is almost unbearable. I agree freezing is much worse. It shuts me down.
For me it starts off with what I think of as brain freeze (like when you drink an icee or eat ice cream to fast) right at the top of my spine. It then goes rapidly down my spine. I think of it as crispy crunchy icing over. My over active imagination thinks of that part as similar to magic shell ice cream topping. It’s a liquid that instantly turns hard when it comes in contact with ice cream. For me any sudden temperature change causes it. Hot to cold or cold to hot. I have learned to dress in layers and add a layer right before entering a place I think will be colder and removing a layer if I am leaving a cool place to enter a hotter place. It is exactly a frozen spine and my temperature doesn’t change. Sometimes it gets bad enough for me that my teeth chatter. Getting under an electric heating blanket on high stops it after 30 minutes or so. There is a price to pay for that. The heat triggers a motor fatigue that zaps any energy that I had to begin with. Getting out of bed and doing anything beyond going to the bathroom and back triggers a bone heaviness and sometimes makes me feel as if the smallest ones weigh 100 pounds and each larger one weighs more. Moving at all then causes my larger bones to feel as if they are snapping in half. Sounds crazy, I know, to anyone that hasn’t experienced it or something similar. It’s kind of a pick your poison thing. They me the frozen feeling is worse than the heavy bones.
