My neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital who I highly respect always advises me to get a flu shot and the available Covid vaccines. I've neither had the flu or covid. I'm 76 years old and SPMS and have never been on a DMT ( my decision). Did get the pneumonia vac for people over 65 and did get pneumonia some time later after the vaccine. I've also had both shingles shots. With this wacko disease we are all different.
I am very sorry for your terrible loss and understand your unwillingness to get vaccines. However, in most cases , evidence shows that these vaccines prevent serious illnesses that morph into pneumonia. I would always check with your provider before making decisions about vaccines. But for most of us with compromised immunity from MS - they are a lifesaver.
I've had secondary-progressive MS since 1982, back when there were no MRI's, and the medicines sed were Klonopin, Baclofen, and high dosages of prednisone. I have many allergies to medicines. However, I've had no trouble with Prevnar for pneumonia - in fact,, I've gotten pneumonia many, many times BEFORE the shot, but NOT AFTER. I got the shot in 2017. I also received the Shingles vaccine and two weeks afterward, the Moderna booster and the flu shot at the same time. You should NEVER get LIVE vaccines!! i managed not to get any of the diseases associated with them, and i'm so happy these were available to me. I'm 85 years old, and, although
the progression of MS has made life difficult, I'm a fighter!!
I don’t get the pneumonia shot but get the FLU shot every year just make sure that it’s the non live virus one ! I ask them constantly if it’s the non live one
I would say no to any vax. My dad got the flu and the pneumonia and shingles vax (not at same time but in Same year) he passed away (not COVID) having the flu that turned into pneumonia while having shingles! I also agree with any compromised immune system I would not get a vax period!
