I'm taking a Vitamin D supplement w/ K but I'm still low I also try to eat foods with vitamin D as well. With the gray weather coming for winter - can some of you share what you do to boost your D? As well as B12 for energy!

I am currently taking 6,000 iu per day, I eat lots of yogurt and eggs. I also try to sit outside in the sun for at least ten minutes a day but I am in Louisiana so we have plenty of sunshine. In a different climate, this may be difficult. I have a friend and she is from Siberia. She used to use a visor that would shine artificial light. She would use it during the winter season to help increase her mood. I am not sure of the Vitamin D aspects of the visor but it may offer some relief nonetheless. Good luck!

My last round of blood work showed me to be deficient in D. I was taking 2000iu’s a day. Now I take 3000. I also started taking one with K2 and something mixed in to make it fat soluble. Or rather it’s fat soluble and this supplement has a fat added along with the D3 and the K2. I won’t have another round of blood work until February to know if it makes a definitive change but my nails are all of a sudden healthy. Go figure. I’m an outside soul. It’s mostly beyond to hot to be outside. I’m longing for the winter when if we are lucky the temperature will be in the 80’s. If you live in a place where you can tolerate the heat they say 30 minutes a day in the sun is all you need. When I am functioning enough to drive I visit one of our local libraries. We have a few that have rooms that can serve as sunrooms. Possibly you have something similar?

Al, I know is that for myself my Nuroligist had prescribed (3) 25 mcg (3,000 IU) daily of vitamin D3 initially then I worked with a pharmacist on some blood pressure issues I was having for a a little over a year trying to fine tune the medications that I needed to take to correctly control my BP and during that time the pharmacist lowered my daily dose to just 1,000 IU he called it a maintenance does. Nearing a year on 1,000 IU I began breaking teeth left and right costing me a small fortune in dental work to get my teeth fixed so I reached out to my Nuroligist and let him know what had been going on and he immediately raised my vitamin D back up to 3,000 IU a day and said something about MS sort of eating vitamin D. I’m not sure if he meant that folks with MS have lower vitamin D levels because by and large we don’t go outside into the sun and get it naturally or if he was actually referring to some sort of metabolic issue with vitamin D in people that have MS. So you’ll have to research that yourself. The only thing I know for sure is that those of us who were gifted this non-returnable non-refundable gift for a large part have low vitamin D levels.

@A MyMSTeam Member MS the gift that keeps on giving. I see my Nuroligist the morning of September 26th I think I’ll ask him about adding a 4th vitamin D3 tablet.
