I get so tired of men all over the country want to freind me on Facebook just to try to have a romantic relationship. And dating sites popping up- asking for me to sign up!! I get freind requests approximately 2 times a month. I either delete it right away or end up unfriending them. My MS takes up too much of my energy. I'm just not interested in dating because of MS.

Members resonated deeply with the question of whether MS makes dating too difficult, with many sharing that fatigue, nerve pain, bladder issues, and other symptoms leave little energy for romance. Several members described painful past experiences, including partners who were unsupportive or left after diagnosis, and many said they now feel more at peace living independently, finding joy in hobbies, faith, or friendship instead. A recurring theme was knowing your own worth regardless of MS, with a few members offering hope by sharing stories of finding genuinely kind and understanding companions.

Hi Brenda, I’m 66 now and went ms blind in 2015. (Recovered all but peripheral vision) I did date for awhile when my ms was in more remission. The last person I dated made my decision for me. I didn’t say right away I had ms but his first reaction was to step back and ask if it was contagious. He would complain about my late morning starts or being too tired to see him; equating my low energy level to not caring. He criticized my speaking foibles/conversation issues. Finally I just told him I didn’t want to see him anymore. He didn’t take that news graciously, lol. Then I was busy packing to move and that about broke me down ms-wise. I hadn’t felt old until this move and my ms made permanent inroads in my abilities that I now have new lower functioning level. I did a great deal of thinking about dating during this time and came to the conclusion I was no longer going to be that “low hanging fruit” (look it up if unsure what it means and trust me I am insulting myself). I miss the companionship the most and new experiences. I do miss intimacy but if I am to take my Christian beliefs seriously then that is off the table from now on. (where the low hanging fruit analogy comes in). Most men I’ve run into on dating sites are not interested in long term but more of a sexual relationship. Some and be careful about this, will be scammers after your money. I still believe I am a good person, can be a supportive partner but now as my ms takes up more of my time and attention- I doubt there are men out there who would be interested. And that’s ok. I know my worth, ms or not, and it would be a rare/nonexistent man who would see past the ms to the empathetic, adventurous, intelligent Christian woman who’s still there. Despite my experience, go and put yourself out there. Before you do, make a small list of essential qualities, also what lines you are not willing to cross and stick to it. (I dated a former preacher who told me he would never go to church with me, or the deacon of another church who had such grabby hands by the end of the “date” I ended up crying. And he still called me afterwards! 🤦🏼‍♀️) There was one kind man who thought I wasn’t interested because I kept putting him off (it was a time I was having so many tests done) I think he is probably one I regret not making a better effort to understand but oh well. 🤷🏼‍♀️ What I would be interested in hearing from are the guys on this site and how they would look at a woman with a chronic (possibly disabling or definitely interfering) disease. Definitely best wishes, be safe, be aware, be careful, have fun, prayers for a good outcome. 🙏🏻

I don’t like the idea of just hooking up. I may be old fashioned but I think my body and hers should be treated as something special not just a one and done thing.
