I wish him well Andy. You could be right. Maybe the combination of antibiotic and painkiller affected him differently and gave him relief. I only take gabapentin and still suffer from nerve pain. It is awful. You are a good friend to reach out on his behalf. Problem being antibiotics are not given over long periods of time thus making them ineffective if needed down the road.

Hiya , I’m also a sufferer of TGN . I’ve just had a procedure that went through my cheek, then to brain stem and inserted a small balloon to press on nerve . Didn’t work at first, the three months of painful TGN , then nothing 🤞🏼it’s now ok . Im holding my breath.

Andy I've had TG a lot.
I had all kinds of injections into my face to numb it, that only lasts a couple of days, intravenous pain cocktail which didn't work.
Antiepileptic drugs called Tegretol help but leave you really groggy. The newer more expensive one called Zebinix works well, less groggy.
The only thing that really helps is the Gamma operation, you're sedated and through your cheek they enter the start of the brain, find the trigmenial nerve and zap it a little with radio frequency waves.
This has really worked for me, lasts a year in my case and is a relatively simple op.
The cocktail of meds that helped your friend I'm not sure about, depends what they were. It's a very difficult pain to mask, horrifying.
General nerve pain which I have everyday is awful , TM is.....

Well @ @A MyMSTeam Member I have TGN (trigeminal nerve pain)
The drug combo that worked for ages was Gabapentin +oxcarbazepine - but then I took too much oxcarbazepine and the sodium level dropped too low and caused my arms to pull forward and was admitted to hospital-they added bacfolin to help relax muscles.

But 2 things in my horrible, horrendous TGN that worked was a nerve block done in the trigeminal nerve's of my face-jaw. If a pain Dr can do this for him perhaps could stop. But it's not immediately - still pain for week or so, and so far working. If I could walk am wheelchair bound can understand that fall. I also had Botox injections and worked for a while.
Oh carbamazepine does help but caused me so much depression Dr change to oxcarbazepine
Hospital also added a tylenol and it help somewhat but can't get that high dose OTC.
Seems the nerve block has worked best.
Tell him also maybe Witch hazel ( like rubbing alcohol) maybe help with rib. Just soak a rag in witch hazel and lay on area. Hopefully help

I am so sorry for your friend Andy. I hope help comes soon. I have no idea what TGN is, that I am aware of, but am glad. I think. Some times things are labeled differently across the pond. I don't know why. I hope all continues to get better and I will pray for you and him.
