I have had a strange occurrence lately of my blood pressure going so low (60/40) that I could've died; then 4 hours later , and here in the hospital going up to being too high (162/ 95) and a pulse rate of 144. Then as sudden as it happened, this weird "episode " stopped. I've had high blood pressure most of my life. But I've NEVER had this strange occurrence of extremes happen with my blood pressure and pulse rate before, until this MS flare.

Members connected over the question of whether MS can affect blood pressure and heart rate, with many sharing that they have experienced similar swings between dangerously low and high readings. Several members described taking medications like metoprolol and blood pressure pills, with some noting that low potassium and stress played a role in their fluctuations. A recurring theme was the importance of listening to your body, staying active when possible, and leaning on the community for support as MS symptoms grow more complex over time.

WE ALL must be supportive of each other. This is getting more and more complicated.. the longer I have MS, and the more I go through, and the more I learn! With a disease as crazy and complex like MS, knowledge is POWER.

Aren't we lucky? Just when you think flares and weird problems are gone they rear they ugly had. Several strokes for me, one MI and something called Mitral Valve prolapse. Take blood pressure meds, always to high or 60/40 like you BrendaStinnett. Mine is caused by a potassium problem when to low, stress when too high. No fun for us 😞

I've been walking about 6 miles a week for months. How is that not excersizing? I walk all over the area where I live. I have the little Susitna river practically in my backyard. I walk down to the lake which is not far off from the front of my cabin . Excersizing is my middle name ever since the snow melted last spring break up!

I do have high blood pressure and take medication for it. Now it's almost always low and I've been told that the bottom number is very hard to hear. Sometimes it takes more than one person to find it. @A MyMSTeam Member, I was in the hospital for one thing when they discovered I had low potassium, this was before I was diagnosed with MS. I had to have a potassium infusion thing. It hurt worse than what ever I was really there for. Now I avoid doctors and hospitals as much as possible. Yearly for neurologist and every 6 months for primary care.
