I am overweight it is hard for me to exercise. I do try to eat fairly healthy. My doctor told me he would not prescribe the shots since they haven't been tested much on older people. GLP-1 Shots for Weight Loss
- Study Findings: In a small study, 33 people with MS took GLP-1 drugs for weight loss over 15 months. No MS relapses were reported, though some had new MRI lesions.
- Side Effects: Around 1 in 4 participants experienced gastrointestinal issues like stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.
- Safety: Researchers concluded that GLP-1 agonists seem safe and well-tolerated among people with MS, but further studies are needed.
- Usage Advice: Dr. Aaron Boster advises using GLP-1 agonists as part of a broader weight loss strategy that includes exercise and lifestyle changes, rather than relying solely on the medication.
Risks of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists
- Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, headaches, and indigestion.
- Severe Risks: Rare cases of severe pancreas damage have been reported.
Conclusion
- Holistic Approach: Weight loss should be approached holistically, incorporating medication, exercise, and lifestyle changes for the best outcomes.
