Yes, I had double vision for several months and did the shut 1 eye trick too. I'm not saying you shouldn't see a doctor, but I am saying I didn't. The double vision just started 1 day and ended the same way, no unusual event. I did, however, switch DMTs right before my double vision corrected but I can't say one had a thing to do with the other.

When laying down double vision bad. Always have to close one eye. Things are very blurry most of the time.

In 2007 I was in a restaurant with my friend and I remember saying, you look blurry, but thank goodness it went away, now I can't walk.

Sorry to hear that. My right eye has blurry and when I was first diagnosed in2004. The blurry vision was first in my left eye. I don't remember when the blurryness changed eyes. But that said I know other people who have temporary blurryness. My eye gets worse when I'm stressed.
