My doctor has been after me for several years to start taking a statin med. I have held off due to the side effects ( some horrific
sounding ) so many people complain of. The recent MSTeam article also mentioned that Vit D supplements interact with Atorvastatin. I would appreciate hearing about anyone’s experience taking a statin.
Any side effects, dose you take, etc. Thanks

Statins, are you diabetic? I myself would not take Metformin or statins that’s the beginning of a lifetime of
Diabetes. I would definitely try diet to
control cholesterol before beginning
another medication.

As far as choices go, I refuse to take the statins since a major component of myelin is cholesterol. who is to say who is to say, if they are seeing natural high levels or a side effect of myelin destruction? The clinical trials done on statins for improving RRMS were shut down because they made MS worse. Did my first PhD thesis on statins and neurological side effects made me say I will not go on statins, from the research in Iceland and other reports.

My cardiologist prescribed the statins for me, but not because I need them, my cholesterol numbers are good, but because he told me he wanted to keep them good. My husband takes a statin but he is diabetic and has congestive heart failure and kidney disease, not helped by the metformin he was prescribed years ago. They stopped that when he started having heart problems. After reading I am going to talk to my neurologist about the statin.

I have PPMS and Dr. said some people have found good results with their MS. I also have hashimotos thyroid, which is the reason I have high cholesterol, so it’s killing 2birds with one stone. I really suffer from fatigue not sure if that’s the statin or MS or hashimotos 🤪
