Riding in a car for extended periods can be challenging with MS for several reasons. MS-related fatigue can be significantly worsened by car rides, with some people experiencing exhaustion that lasts for days afterward. The exposure to bright sunlight or UV light from oncoming cars can trigger intense headaches.

Additionally, muscle spasticity can make it uncomfortable to remain seated in one position for long periods. Some people may experience increased stiffness or muscle spasms while riding in a car. Cognitive symptoms like brain fog can also make car rides more challenging, as the constant visual stimulation and need to process movement can be overwhelming. Vision problems, which affect many people with MS, may be aggravated by the motion of the vehicle and changing light conditions.

To make car rides more manageable, consider taking breaks during longer trips, using sunglasses to reduce light sensitivity, and adjusting your seating position regularly to help with muscle comfort. Planning trips during times when you typically have more energy can also help.

That's a great picture, Barb! Just in the last year, I have a terrible time in the car anymore. I get so dizzy and motion sick. I just have to try to look ahead. When I turn my head, I just have to remember to move slowly.

I almost always fall asleep in the car. Because we live in the country, most places we go are more than 30 minutes away. We have a lot of nice scenery to look at when we go places
