You are the best judge, but I think you're doing very well. MS is a ****. Anyone that can keep a positive outlook and have this hanging over their head. Is a winner!
I myself understand what it's like to live with a narcissist. This person can't comprehend the challenges that I have with MS. I will never be good enough to accomplish their goals or thoughts. And, I also have changes that I have to manage myself. I believe that I am doing pretty well. I have a new journal, I will start writing daily again.
There are two things here, the actual diagnosis of narcissistic personality syndrome is much more rare than having a narcissistic personality, although, it might lead to the development of the syndrome. The syndrome is much more severe and debilitating for the individual, so much so that they can not cope in social situations. Just having some narcissistic tendencies is another matter. I do believe that those tendencies are taught in childhood, prior to the age of 5, and continue for as long as their primary care giver, the original “teacher” is still in their lives.
I am having this same issue, my mother, my sister, my nephew and his wife all have narcissistic tendencies and exhibit those characteristics. I know how my sister and my nephew became narcissistic via my mother. The nephew’s wife is a narcissist. Like attracts like. She is unbearable, makes cutting remarks and unrealistic demands, and unnecessary comments to create stress. She is very good at concealing her emotional reactions and exhibits limited empathy. She has an intense desire to have control of anything around her; she does so through manipulation of the rest of the family. My therapist said “you have a snake in your garden.”
You cannot change a narcissist, you can “love them at arms length” as my son says. Interact only when necessary, if it’s not necessary, don’t participate. I have found a very good source on communication, Jefferson Fisher, he is very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator.
Thank you CherylCrawn2. I am trying to find good ways to cope. I love music too. It also helps.
Sharron Simmons, I'm sorry you have to put up with this. You are doing the best you can. Your journal sounds like a good idea. You can express yourself and find some happiness. God bless you 😇🕊️🫂
