Many MyMSTeam members report experiencing flushing (temporary skin redness) and gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain when taking Tecfidera. For most people, these side effects are mild to moderate and decrease after the first month of treatment.
To help manage flushing, members suggest:
• Taking aspirin 30-60 minutes before Tecfidera
• Eating foods high in healthy fats (like peanut butter or avocado) before taking the medication
• Taking Tecfidera with food
• Avoiding alcohol Healthcare providers often recommend a slower titration schedule to reduce side effects:
• Weeks 1-2: 120mg once daily
• Weeks 3-4: 240mg once daily
• Week 5+: 240mg twice daily
It's important to space doses at least 8 hours apart and always take with food containing healthy fats like:
• Avocados
• Nuts and seeds
• Olive oil
• Fish
