My Dr. said, I've been on it for a number of years and doing good, But as you get older they like you to be off it. They really don't like anyone on them as they age, they like people to be off them by 70. Has anyone been told this?

Yes, I'm 68. And my new Neurologist just told me this in July. My first time hearing of this. So my next visit she will decide if she will take me off the tecfidera. I'm totally in agree with it!!πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’œ

I am almost 65. Off DMTs, recent MRI shows only small activity in one area, otherwise stable. No relapses.

My doctor told me that when I was 68. No changes in MRIs since 2018. I'm 71, not taking DMT and still no changes.I had an MRI in June and only changes were arthritic ones.

I’m 71 and my new neurologist is urging me to consider d/c of Tecfidera. I’m a bit nervous about it as eight years ago when I got off chemo I relapsed. But I’m going to give it a try. I’m going to keep at least a week supply on hand in case I start to relapse. Then I can restart immediately. She put in a script for more in case I need it. I think this is a great compromise.

I know a lot of you have been on a DMT for quite a while. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 64 and wasn't prescribed a DMT until I was 65 so I only took it a couple years before the doctor discussed not taking it. Any kind of change in any kind of medication should be discussed with your doctor. Sometimes the worry about stopping it may cause you more stress than you need. It is really an individual choice. I do not like taking medication so was happy to stop taking it especially since things have been the same for so long..
