Most therapeutics are aimed at RRMS, rather than SPMS like mine. That said, there are investigations into remyelination that hold promise for me.

Agreed. I've had MS for 30 years and am now 73, so "in my lifetime" means (on average) in the next 15 years.

The goal is to activate dormant oligodendrocytes (which make up 5-8% of brain and spinal cord cells) to rebuild myelin in damaged areas. This could potentially help prevent further progression and maybe even restore some function. Current research is exploring several promising compounds for remyelination:

• S1P receptor modulators (some already approved as DMTs)
• Clemastine fumarate (an antihistamine)
• Sex hormones like testosterone

Additionally, researchers are investigating neuroprotective therapies to slow brain atrophy, which is particularly important for progressive forms of MS. While there have been some setbacks in trials, scientists remain optimistic about developing effective treatments.
