i get the three areas because my lesions are in all three areas. If you can get your doctor to order all three together your insurance should count it as One MRI. But in the beginning i got 3 a year, then 2 and now as I'm more stable 1 a year of all three areas. (Brain, thoracic, and upper spine) The first year is more important because they are making sure your medication is working. though it normally takes at least three months to see if it's working or not.
I had 3 when I was first diagnosed, now I have one yearly. After my last visit with my neurologist she said it could be every 2 years

MRIs are needed for 3 areas of spine and Brain perhaps they are doing them gradually? But contrast dye is also needed and some do that separately.
