Definitely let your Doctor know. With me, I wake up at night feeling like I am drowning in phlegm. It chokes me, strangles me & sometimes makes me vomit.

Omg, today I choked too. I was trying to take my time drinking water, I began to choke. I didn't think that I was drinking too fast. I will let the doctor know when I see her.

Hello @A MyMSTeam Member. I too have excess phlegm. I clear my throat making an awful noise then swallow, at times (involuntarily) cough. Haven't found a great answer. I think this is what used to be called post-nasal drip.🤓

Yes, MS can cause issues with phlegm production and management. Many people with MS experience problems with excess mucus and phlegm buildup in their throat. This is often related to muscle weakness that affects the throat and chest wall muscles, making it harder to clear secretions effectively.

Yes, MS can cause issues with phlegm production and management. Many people with MS experience problems with excess mucus and phlegm buildup in their throat. This is often related to muscle weakness that affects the throat and chest wall muscles, making it harder to clear secretions effectively.

Some MyMSTeam members report constantly clearing their throat and feeling like phlegm gets stuck, sometimes leading to choking sensations, particularly at night. Managing phlegm with MS often requires medical support. While home remedies might help mild cases, it's important to:

• Talk to your neurologist about personalized solutions
• Get evaluated for possible respiratory infections, which can be more common with MS
• Consider working with respiratory or neurorehabilitation specialists
• Seek immediate medical attention if phlegm is yellow or green, as this could indicate infection

Remember that people with MS may be more susceptible to respiratory infections and can become sicker from them than others, so prompt medical attention is important.
