This has happened to me while waiting in line at the store or standing in a patients room talking to them.

Mine doesn't fall asleep but it gets numb. Standing in line at the store, cooking, washing dishes, anything where I'm standing and not doing a good bit of moving around.

Does your leg feel tingly or numb when standing?

Yes, this is something other people with MS experience. The sensation of your leg "falling asleep" while standing could be related to several MS symptoms.

It might be a form of leg weakness that comes on during standing. Many MyMSTeam members describe their legs feeling wobbly, like jelly, or unpredictable when they're on their feet for a while. One member mentioned feeling unbalanced all the time, like one leg was shorter than the other.

This could also be related to orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing), which affects over half of people with MS. When you stand for extended periods, reduced blood flow can cause tingling, numbness, or that "falling asleep" feeling in your legs. What might help:

- Try shifting your weight from leg to leg while standing
- If possible, take breaks to sit down during longer standing periods
- Stay hydrated, as dehydration can worsen orthostatic symptoms
- Consider using a mobility aid in situations where you'll be standing for a while

Talk to your neurologist about this symptom, especially if it's happening frequently or making you feel unsteady. They can help determine whether it's related to circulation, nerve signals, or muscle weakness and suggest appropriate management strategies.

My leg hasn't gotten there yet, my feet have been falling asleep on me since 4th grade.
