Are you experiencing restless leg symptoms related to MS?

While your search results don't specifically mention restless leg syndrome, many MyMSTeam members describe experiencing uncontrollable leg movements and twitching that could feel similar.

Members often report muscle spasms and twitching that make their legs move involuntarily. As one member shared, "I get the twitchy muscle spasms in both of my calves. This is a daily event." Another mentioned, "It feels like something jumping inside my leg."

Some members find that leg twitching and spasms worsen at night, which can disrupt sleep. One member explained, "Every evening for about 30 minutes, my legs and torso get very twitchy. It's annoying and tiring."

What might be causing this?

MS damages the protective coating around nerve cells, which can send abnormal signals between your brain and muscles. This can cause:
- Muscle spasms and involuntary movements
- Twitching that lasts from seconds to 15 minutes or longer
- Symptoms that repeat throughout the day

These symptoms can worsen during MS flares and may be triggered by stress, fatigue, extreme temperatures, or overexertion.

What you can do:

Talk to your neurologist about what you're experiencing. They can help determine if this is MS-related spasticity or another condition, and discuss treatment options like muscle relaxants or physical therapy to help manage the symptoms.
