We always answer, I am fine, how are you? Such the pass off answer. So give me the real answer. You may answer twice, one with a"positive" and the other, the real. I lie to people all the time with that mundane answer. To please. I really wonder what your real response to that question is. How.Are.You.Doing ?

Members responded honestly to the question 'How are you doing?' by sharing the gap between their polite answers and their true feelings while living with MS. Several members described giving upbeat replies like 'I'm fine' or 'taking it day by day' to avoid burdening others, while privately dealing with pain, fatigue, isolation, grief, and fear about what comes next. A recurring theme was the deep comfort found in honest connections, whether with a trusted friend, a caregiver, or this community, where the real answer finally feels safe to share.

Typically, I will answer with a simple ‘okay’ but when I am having a less than satisfactory day, I will reply with ‘ i have been better’. I haven’t replied with ‘I’m fine.’ For quite a few years….

I always say I’m good , or I am feeling well . I don’t do it to please others ,but because I think words hold weight. I like to speak positively about myself and how I feel. I notice if I start complaining or saying negative things my mood changes and I start to feel worse.
