This is being studied in the UK and is supposed to be perfect for situations where your MRI doesn’t show new or active lesions but you feel new or worsening of symptoms. The brain MRI just takes an image of what the brain looks like, but this will actually show brain activity while a person is walking , and doing different things instead of lying still in the MRI machine. I find it interesting. If anyone has more information about this please share!

OPM-MEG is newly developed instrumentation to measure human brain electrophysiology.

We used OPM-MEG to detect differences between people with MS (pwMS) and controls.

Measured delayed movement induced beta responses and reduced visual gamma effects.

OPM-MEG allows recording in participants in multiple postures (sitting/standing).

We found reduced beta power and functional connectivity when standing (cf. sitting).

Traditional MRI scans are excellent at showing structural changes like lesions in your brain and spinal cord, but they capture images while you're lying still. They can show where damage has occurred but don't always capture functional problems or explain why you're experiencing new symptoms.

Some existing tools that measure MS-related function include:

- Evoked potential (EP) tests - These measure how quickly your nerves send signals to your brain and can detect nerve damage that might not show up on MRI
- Walking tests like the 25-foot walk test and Dynamic Gait Index
- Apps like Floodlight Open - Free tools that track hand coordination, walking, and cognitive function through game-like activities
