The first medicine I caved and began using was gabapentin. I didn’t want to take it because I had heard of all the possible side effects but ultimately the itching was so unbearable that I gave it a try and it has helped. Sometimes, itching is so bad that I have to put ice packs directly on my skin to redirect the nerve and get relief.

Oh yeah! I have scars too. Now, I use rough material to scratch, and if that doesn’t work, I have to put ice packs directly on my skin before the itching will stop.
I would scratch your back, I so understand not being able to do it effectively and being left with the miserable feeling of the Itch. Sleep well Ellen
