Many community members responded to a question about the MS hug affecting the chest area, with most confirming it can travel anywhere across the torso, including the chest, ribs, abdomen, and back. Several members shared coping strategies like muscle relaxers, heating pads, weighted blankets, lidocaine roll-ons, anti-inflammatory creams, and controlled breathing to manage the intense squeezing pain. A recurring theme was the fear of mistaking the MS hug for heart problems, along with emotional solidarity and shared relief in knowing others experience the same frightening symptom.

@A MyMSTeam Member that must be horrid, being difficult to breathe and swallow - I'm sad you're being hugged like that. Although I'm blessed I don't get that symptom I do understand πŸ˜žπŸŒΊπŸ΅οΈβ„οΈπŸ™
Please accept a proper hug πŸ«‚

I use a heating pad on my right side at night. Sometimes a pillow on my ribs with my arm holding the pillow. Sometimes just the heating pad it's a weighted one, with out it being turned on. I haven't figured out how to deal with it during the day yet. It comes and goes.

These way I know to explain it is, It's like a Anaconda wraps around you and never let's up. The only thi g I have found is to take a Muscle Relaxer or maybe two and hope for rest. Then after I get up I might have release. But God bless πŸ™you with everything
