I am a newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis patient from China, 30 years old. In China, multiple sclerosis is classified as a rare disease, and the number of people affected is relatively small. But when I learned about this forum, I couldn't wait to join all of you.

My clinical symptoms include double vision and dizziness. My condition may not seem severe, but after reviewing my MRI report, my doctor noted that I have quite a few lesions and they are active. He chose ofatumumab for me. Honestly… read more

Hello @A MyMSTeam Member πŸ‘‹ welcome πŸ’œ Your concerns are understandable, In answer to your concerns: there are lots of us who are on/have been on various DMTs (disease modifying therapies) and these play an important part in preventing new lesions; many of us have children; none of us can predict symptoms in the future, however many of us are living fulfilling lives as we grow older. Wishing you well, you are not alone.πŸ€—

How can I manage doubts about starting a high-efficacy MS treatment like ofatumumab, and what should I know about family planning with MS?

It's completely understandable to feel uncertain after starting a new treatment, especially a highly effective one. Trusting your doctor's recommendation is an important first step, particularly since your MRI showed active lesions. Starting treatment early can help prevent future damage.

Managing Treatment Doubts

Many people with MS experience stress when making treatment decisions. Here are some helpful approaches:

β€’ Communicate openly with your neurologist about your concerns and questions
β€’ Remember that your doctor chose this treatment based on your specific situation
β€’ Give yourself time to adjust - some side effects may fade over time
β€’ Focus on the goal: preventing new lesions and relapses

One MyMSTeam member shared: "You have to ask yourself: Are the chances of side effects small enough that it outweighs the chances I may have another relapse which could cause permanent damage?"

Family Planning Considerations

Regarding having children, it's important to discuss pregnancy planning with your healthcare providers. They can guide you on:

β€’ When to safely plan pregnancy around your treatment
β€’ Which medications are safer during pregnancy
β€’ How to manage MS during and after pregnancy

The decision about medication use during pregnancy involves understanding the quality of safety information available and weighing the benefits of treatment against potential risks.

Your feelings are valid, and many others share similar concerns. Stay connected with your healthcare team as your partner in managing MS.
