Diagnosed PPMS at 62. Neuro said ocrevus just until I’m 65. Such low chances is it worth starting at this point just for couple years

@A MyMSTeam Member sorry that you have progressed to PPMS . That’s a great question and I think it’s difficult to say what you should do. I think you have to do what you feel the most comfortable with. Will you be worried about developing or worsening of symptoms without having medication? I assume if you change your mind you can stop/start medication at any point within the next few years. Think about , and weight it out. Best of luck to you !!

63 and told I have MS and in remission. No meds just watch and wait. I'm going to an MS Center to have some answers.

That's a really important question, and it makes complete sense to weigh the pros and cons before starting a treatment — especially one with a time limit already attached to it.

Ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) is the only FDA-approved treatment specifically for PPMS. It works by reducing B cells, which are immune cells that attack the central nervous system. Clinical trial data showed it helped delay the need for a wheelchair by an average of seven years — which is actually a significant outcome. Even a couple of years on Ocrevus could potentially:

- Slow the buildup of disability
- Reduce new lesion activity
- Help preserve mobility and independence longer

Early and prompt treatment has also been shown to improve overall outcomes in PPMS, so starting sooner rather than later does carry real value. That said, this is absolutely a conversation to have in depth with your neurologist. Ask them specifically what measurable benefits they'd expect to see in your case, and what stopping at 65 would mean for ongoing management.

Every person's PPMS journey is different, and getting clarity on the reasoning behind the age cutoff will help make this decision feel a lot less uncertain. You deserve a full picture, not just a timeline.
