I was diagnosed with relapse/remission ms in 1989 and have now progressed to secondary progressive ms. I was prescribed Siponimod (Maysent) 2years ago when my symptoms worsened to try to slow down progression but I have noticed increased hair loss. Has anyother people noticed this?
I have been in Aubagio for a few months and my hair has thinned out a lot . I was told it’s a common side effect and around 6 months it will stop. I have thick long hair so it’s not noticeable to other people, but I notice it and feel it.
I used to be on gilenya which is the first generation of that drug- I can't remember if it caused hair loss. I would just get oral thrush from it- I did get some hair thinning from another MS drug, though.
"Hair loss is not a reported side effect of Mayzent (siponimod) in clinical trials, and medical sources confirm the drug is not likely to cause hair loss. Unlike other multiple sclerosis medications such as Aubagio (teriflunomide) or Rebif (interferon-beta-1a), which are known to cause hair thinning or loss, Mayzent has not been associated with this adverse reaction in official studies."
Hair loss is a known side effect of some disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), and you're definitely not alone in noticing this. While Siponimod (Mayzent) isn't the most commonly reported DMT linked to hair loss, it can still occur with various MS treatments.
