Stimulants for MS Fatigue: Can They Help? Read Article...
A MyMSTeam Member

I just started LDN a month and a half ago for fatigue & spasticity. my MS neuro started me at 4.5mg she said that most people end up there eventually anyway but, if I have any side effects she would back it down as needed.

LDN is most commonly discussed for MS pain management rather than fatigue specifically, but some MyMSTeam members do report broader benefits from it. The standard dose range often cited is up to 4.5mg, so your doctor's suggestion to increase from 3mg to 4.5mg is a pretty typical step.

One MyMSTeam member shared that they've taken LDN since 2012 with no side effects, noting that starting lower and gradually increasing helped minimize any issues. When considering bumping up your dose, here are a few things worth keeping in mind:

- Side effects can include headaches, stomach pain, difficulty sleeping, and vivid dreams
- Drug interactions are important — LDN should not be taken alongside opioid pain medications
- Liver health is a consideration, as LDN isn't recommended for those with liver failure or acute hepatitis

Since LDN isn't FDA-approved specifically for MS symptoms, it's considered off-label use. That said, your doctor knowing your full history is the best guide here. It's also worth asking them specifically about any fatigue-focused evidence they're drawing from when making this recommendation.
