Receiving that kind of news in a letter — not even a phone call — can feel really unsettling, and it's completely understandable to feel worried. First, take a breath. One new lesion after five years of stability on Tysabri is actually a sign that your treatment has been doing a lot of heavy lifting.

That said, this is definitely worth a conversation with your neurologist. Some good questions to ask include:

- Is this lesion active (showing current inflammation) or older?
- Does this change how they view your current treatment plan?
- Should the frequency of your MRI monitoring change?
- Are there any lifestyle factors that could be contributing? It's also worth knowing that lesion activity can sometimes be influenced by factors outside of MS treatment, such as blood pressure or other lifestyle factors. Maintaining a heart-healthy diet, staying physically active, and avoiding smoking can all help protect brain health.

Don't hesitate to advocate for yourself in getting a proper follow-up appointment rather than just a letter. Five years of stability is meaningful — and your care team should help you understand what this one new lesion means for your path forward.
