I asked that question because for the past couple of months every morning when I wake up, I feel hung over and I’m not a drinker, now I have been yrs ago & I’ve had my fair share of hangovers so I definitely know what they feel like but I don’t really even drink anymore, so why do I wake up feeling like I have a hangover?

Waking up feeling like you've had a big night out — without a single drop — is actually something other MyMSTeam members have reported too. You're definitely not alone in this!

That "hangover" feeling in the morning can be linked to a few MS-related things:

- MS fatigue — This is one of the most common MS symptoms and can feel crushing, especially in the mornings. It's not just tiredness; it can feel like your whole body is weighed down.
- Poor sleep quality — MS can disrupt sleep, meaning even a full night's rest doesn't feel restorative.
- Dizziness or vertigo — About one-third of people with MS experience dizziness, which can feel very similar to that woozy, unsteady hangover sensation.
- Dehydration — Many people with MS don't stay well hydrated throughout the day, which can worsen fatigue and that groggy feeling in the morning. A good tip shared by a neurologist is to try drinking a glass of water with each meal and one between meals. Staying consistently hydrated throughout the day — rather than trying to catch up at night — can improve energy, mood, and sleep quality.

Since this has been happening every morning for a couple of months, it's worth mentioning to your neurologist or MS care team. They can help figure out whether it's fatigue, sleep disruption, dizziness, or something else driving it — and find ways to help.
