Members shared deeply personal views on whether MS is a blessing in disguise, with many firmly rejecting the idea while acknowledging small silver linings found along the way. Several members described heartbreaking losses including careers, driving, relationships, and physical abilities, while others found unexpected gifts like stronger marriages, deeper faith, and greater empathy for others. A recurring theme was that the answer depends on where you are in life, and that any blessings come not from the disease itself, but from the strength and self-discovery found while living with it.

For me its neither I go with the flow of this uncertain disease and work with the bad days to make them better
I cherish the great days and am grateful for everyday I have no matter how MS makes me feel. I am a fighter so my next goal is to exercise more starting with doing what I love which is a motivater for me and that is dance. It just one of many things that brings me joy.

I don't see it as a "blessing in disguise".

Having MS has given me a perspective on life that is a little different than it was prior to dx. While prior Dave took things for granted and expected life would always be easy. My better half abruptly notified me on the 4th anniversary of our meeting that I would no longer have the option to take her for granted if I didn’t make the decision before Christmas…..that was 30 years ago. I took my day off after Thanksgiving, visited Mervis Diamond Importers and picked out the raw diamond that became my wife’s engagement ring. We got married and bought our first house and that summer is when it all began to change. Double vision, at first only when I became overheated, but then almost all the time. After 9 months of eliminating everything else, neurologist dx was MS. Well, what next…….
MS has taken so much from me (and all of us), I choose to focus on things that I can STILL DO! I can’t walk well but put me in a swimming pool and I can knock out a mile in less an hour.

I'll just say I'm grateful for my life, but I'm not grateful for this disease.
