I have kept a journal of my symptoms and they all point to MS and now heat intolerance. I have okay days and very bad days. The neurologist did an MRI and stated that I had a normal brain MRI so I do not have MS. After reading numerous studies I have identified that approximately 5% of MS patients do not have the typical brain lesions - at least initially when symptoms appear. The neurologist will not do any further testing but just keeps increasing my medication for restless leg syndrome -… read more

Me again, since the last post I have been accepted to be seen at a MS specialty clinic and recently found research that most MS begins with damage to the neurons which is permanent. You have to make new pathways around the damage in order to get back the function loss and there are very few radiologists that are trained to the extent to measure the damage or shrinkage of the brain to confirm a diagnosis of MS without the white matter damage. So you may live for years before "they" sayit is MS. I went for four year after optic neuritis before I lit up enough to be given a diagnosis. Try to hold on, keep trying for a neurologist who treats the cause also instead of just the symptoms. You might want to locate a primary doctor who is an integrated or osteopath because they treat the body as whole system instead of only parts.

I'm one of those 5-6% and it sucks! Thanks to having an HMO I have to get referrals and by the time I get in to a neuro and then the MRI - oh well. My Spinal came back positive. I was dx yrs ago as possible MS instead of Fibro. I didn't take it seriously. Now? Been dx just on the wonderful symptoms alone. It is insane how one doc says yes another says who knows and another says oh well.

Yes, I agree spine and brain MRI's are very important. I always feel terrible if I get overheated. I read where it is like having frayed wiring going through your body and makes the reception come in clearly some days and not others like an old radio.

I agree with BrendaHicks, it's important to ask for a cervical spine MRI too. Most of my issues correspond to my cervical lesions.
