I'm dipping my toes in the water of asking for an ADA accommodation to be allowed to work from home. Has anyone else done this successfully? There seems to be some pushback from HR even though it was my boss's idea.
I have no experience with this but I do know how it is trying to get something for anyone that is different. Do not back down from them. I have been fighting with my sons school district since August they don't want to help people out but they have to. Just stand tall and jump through there lil hoops. I found that tends to make them notice you if you don't back down and stand tall. LOL best wishes cherie
I have an MBA and taking and keeping notes is second nature to me. My daughter is in college and is having trouble in one of her classes and said to me it would be great if she had some of the testing they did on her in school. Well, I just pulled out her file and told her I had every test they performed on her during her entire public school career. She was blown away. I was wondering if I had some kind of OCR problem, but decided it was what made me a good VP!
My boss was very understanding. I had a wonderful job but it was very stressful and very fatiguing. My boss allowed me to work from home but after half a year we both realized this wasn't going to work because I was still under the same stress and having the same fatigue. According to the ADA, I don't think your employer can stop you from working from home unless he puts a bed in your office somewhere so you can take naps during the day to offset your fatigue.
suight and fatigue makes this dificult good luck keeping a scheduled ..cannot type that long get too tired
The accommodation you ask for has to be "reasonable" according to the ADA. By going through the interactive process with HR they can asses your request and see if business needs are still being met. They may suggest a trial period to see how it works and that is a good start. Not all accommodations that are requested can be accommodated so there may be some give an take and trial an error until you and HR find something that works. My career is in HR and I see both sides, as I also have MS. Keep working with them and hopefully they will assist you. Keep notes of your meetings and details of the process so you have something to refer to should you ever need to. Good Luck!
