I am in the early stages of diagnosis and am wondering what types of diet changes are recommended. Thanks for your help!
Look into a gluten free diet. I have been seeing promising research in its benefits. And water drink lots and lots of water.
Cut back on unhealthy foods. I started eating healthier two months ago and I could really feel a difference in my body with in a week. Also exercising is beneficial. Like going for little walks and swimming is wonderful and beneficial for us ms'er
We did a vegan diet for years (McDougal style), but my MS was getting worse. 18 months ago I started Compaxone and the Wahl Diet which has stopped the progression (MRI VERIFIED). The Wahl Diet is like a paleo diet (opposite a vegan diet). Plus, because I have Celiac Disease, we are strictly gluten free. I feel much better and my weight stabilized (I am at the exact same weigh as when we married 40 years ago, a lose of 50lbs. from my highest weigh).
Hi I started a Gluten Free, Dairy free Diet about a month ago and I can honestly say it has made a drastic improvement for me with regards to my headaches and general pain. According to the experts and nutritionist I consulted Gluten causes inflammation in your body and Dairy agitates your immune system. But do what you find best for you! a useful book is 'Health Seekers' by Celene Bernstein.
I have never changed my diet to accommodate MS. I am fairly stable and have not seen a need to change it. Everyone is different though.
