I always wondered if interferons are considered to be like chemo. I know they are not used to cure cancer, but they affect blood cells and manipulate the immune system like chemo.
There are so many different types of interferons (alpha, beta gamma etc....)
Some are used in cancer pts, and some for MS; some for both. They all share similar properties but aren't identical
It lowers WBCs and causes hair thinning.
If you do enough research you will find that many of the active ingredients are the same in both chemo and interferon are the same. I found that I felt like I had the flu all the time on betaseron.
