I was wondering those out there taking Tec if you are experiencing hot flashes. I am having them a lot lately. Its been almost 4 full months that I've been taking the drug. On occasion I'm having flushing but the flashes are separate from this. I wonder if its just me or hormones possibly?? Thought I would see if anyone else is experiencing this?
@A MyMSTeam Member - I had horrible flushing when I first started the Tecfidera. After talking to one of the nurse coaches, I started eating a fatty snack or meal before taking it, like a piece of cheese or eggs. She even said she had someone that ate ice cream before each dose. It helped tremendously! About a month after I started taking it, the flushing was gone. About 6 months later, I started a new eating plan and didn't even think about it, until the flushing started again. Once I upped the fat content of the meal or snack preceding the dose, the flushing went away again.
I hope this is helpful for you.
My hot flashes were also like 15 times a day!! I don't get a period because I have an IUD so I'm not sure about skipping periods!!! The Gyno can't know about tecfidera !! It's too new!!! I am sure hot flashes and tecfidera are related. I started a low dose estrogen patch which after almost 3 weeks seems to be working well !! I did have 3 flashes during the night last night but they seemed to have gone away during the day which makes me very happy!!!
I started Tecfidera 14 months ago and had an occasional hot flash before, but I was confused as to whether it was peri-menopausal or Tec. I'm now convinced it's the Tec. The flashes seem much worse in the last 4+ months!! I'm having 10-12 per day and my face, neck and chest get bright red (arms and legs too at times). To top it off, there's perspiration on my forehead, back of my neck and chest. At night I have to sleep with a fan sometimes!!! I need answers, and Biogen does NOT have any. HELP!!!
Started taking Tecfidera a month ago. Glad to be on a pill. Was on Avonex and Rebif last 4 years. First couple days on Tecfidera I felt flushing but it soon went away. Week 1-3 was more of a focus on diarrhea issues which eating a Metamucil bar before taking my morning pill helped control that. Now starting week 4, I am spotting and have enormous tender breasts. I am 41 this year and thinking about being pre-menopause because of starting Tec. Thinking of talking to my neurologist about it. I've lways been regular bcz of being on BC pill. Anyone have had similar issues? Thanks.
I really thought it was just me being 48. Now I'm convinced the tecfidera has a role in it. The hot flashes stopped after 4 months but only for a short time. Now after triying homeopathic remedies which did not help I am using a low dose estrogen patch. My Gyn said it would take 48 hours to work. After 2.5 weeks it's just slightly better. I may just suck it up and try not to be so miserable!! I don't want to go back to injections.
