Has anyone else been diagnosed with a Chiari malformation along with ms? It took forever to get my ms diagnosis because my mri's showed a Chiari malformation, which can produce some of the same symptoms of ms. However, a Chiari malformation doesn't cause lesions, and I have several. This combination seems to complicate everything. I have!! I was diagnosed with Chiari 1 first had decompression surgery and 8-9 months post op I had my first MS attack they thought it was a one off then 5 1/2 months later I had another bad attach and was diagnosed official with MS. I have found if very difficult to find other people who have both, most people have never heard of Chiari.
If you had a good neurologist they would not ask for a spinal tap. Spinal taps for people with Chiari is very dangerous. I have Chiari and MS and mini mini more diseases, I had decompression in 2014 and I got to have more surgeries. But if you have any questions about Chiari please feel free to ask.
I see this was posted a few years ago. I am curious as to how you are doing and what the outcome has been thus far with treatment? I am in the process of a diagnosis and my MRI just showed Chiari 1 malformation as well as lesions, which seems to be complicating everything. I am just trying to get as much information as I can before I meet with the neurologist again. Thanks!
I had surgery for Chiari back in 2007, I went another 5 years before my ms diagnosis.
