Has anyone else had Chiari Malformation? Just wondering because someone once said to me that you always end up with MS

My neurologist, at my first visit-armed with an mri, told me I didn’t have ms. He sent me to a surgeon and I had the decompression surgery in 2007. I healed well from the surgery, but still had the same issues. I wasn’t actually diagnosed with ms until 2911.

@A MyMSTeam Member The link that you provided is where my daughter went. The Dr. there is awesome, and people travel to Denver, CO from all over the world to have him perform their surgery. My daughter was fortunate because we were already living here.

I have both and also have nocturnal seizures (I have been on med for the seizures since they started 7 years ago and they are under control).... I was diagnosed with the Chiari 1 mid 2017 and then diagnosed with MS in Dec 2017. I am on med and vitamins to help prevent any further lesions (I have 2 on my brain and 2 on my spine). It’s just hard to talk to talk to people about it when they have no idea how it all feels.

Yes, it isn't no related But some symptoms can be similar. In fact, my neurologist who diagnosed my MS check my 2011 MRI and said an inflammation was present. So in 2011 they discover my chiari but in fact most of my symptoms was from my MS. However since the decompression surgery, I never got migraine anymore so it is a little!
So it is just unluck to both pathologies!

But your neurologist should give you a treatment for MS to diminish the risk of new crisis.

Kind Regards

My twin grandsons were diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and I talked to my neuro about it. He said most people never had a problem with it although some have had to have surgery. He didn't say there was any way that would be related to MS. Anyway, my grandsons are now 22 years old and the diagnosis was more than 10 years ago and neither has had any problems.
