I was diagnosed about 4 mos ago. My MS has been progressing with copaxone; I just wonder if we should try other options first since tysabri has the PML risk. This scares me.

I started Tysabri about 5 1/2 years ago after Copaxone failed to stop the progression. It didn't mean I had any new lesions or that I was necessarily getting worse, it just meant that the Copaxone wasn't strong enough to shrink several of my larger lesions and those lesions were in parts of my brain that would affect my vision and ability to walk. Tysabri, while scary, has been wonderful. No more daily injections and I haven't had any major relapses since I started it. I still worry about PML, but as long as your doctor is seeing you often and doing your MRI's twice a year or more, than you should be okay.

I am jc positive and had 54 Tysabri infusions. It was the best medication I have tried so far.
Unfortunately the risk for pml became too high so switched to tecfedera. If your Neuro recommends it I give tysabri a try. Good luck!

Imagine that you are scared but, what can anybody do about it? Since my first year with MS, the one thing that has been constant is the unpredictability. I just take one day at a time and daily set many little goals along the way. I am constantly amazed what can still be done.

I have been on Tysabri-I love it. If your dr thinks it is the best thing for you try it. It I s scary about pml, there is bloodwork you will have done to determine any risk. Best thing to do is consult yourdoctor

I truly appreciate all the great responses. This is my first time on the site, and I will make this a regular habit.
