Does anyone in Canada know anything about a Federal tax that covers lost wages for people that are still able to work but has had to reduces hours due to permanent disability. Someone had told me about it a long time ago (prior to me needing it) i have been trying to find information on it but have had no success

Absolutely! I'm a self-employed financial planner and the less money you make the more the gov't gives in it's matching and bond parts. It's worth it even if you are in a higher tax bracket b/c if you've been given the Disability Tax Credit - and make over $87,000 - they still match contributions. And get as much as u can in it by age 49. That's when they stop giving out matching depsoits. As with most gov't things there are limits that cannot be exceeded but that's OK - way better than nothing. Run, don't walk to a bank or other institution like a life insurance company (London Life!). You have to leave the plan for at least 10 yr so don't be afraid of Canadian, American and other international equities. GIC type things are a waste of my patience - I think I've sold 2 or 3 in 14 years! Always willing to help. Good luck.

look up the Disability Tax Credit - it's federal and reduces your income tax payable while working. It has to be filled out by a dr. and sent to the gov't for approval. It has nothing to do with your employer, just with your personal income taxes.....and I'm a Financial Planner....and I qualified a few years ago under the 'general' category. It's not so much about the 5 activities of daily living as it is about the cumulative effect of the stuff we go thru. Go to Google and put in 'disability tax credit'. If your first dr. doesn't sign it - go to another.

The site is being funny and not showing that my posts are on here. I hope it doesn't show up a ton of times.

Hi RDB..I am in Alberta. We have A.I.S.H. Assured Income for Severely Disabled. It must be across Canada? I receive a set income and most Meds are covered. You are allowed to work if you can and they start to claw back from your income if you make more than 400.00. You can't make anything extra or they want it back. I have no other income and it has been a life saver for me. Hope this helps you. xx
