Hello I'm new to this site, and to ms. I was diagnosed only 4 months ago,and I'm not sure if I'm having a relapse or flare up. My dr told me if I had any new symptom or old symptom that was worse, and lasted for 3 or more days to call immediately. I'm not sure what a relapse is and how to tell if I'm having one.if anyone has any info I would really appreciate it thanks.

I can tell I'm having a relapse when something goes numb. (Like my fingers or legs) For me any time an old symptom is acting up it is just a flare up. If you are concerned about a change don't be worried about calling your doctor. You are not bugging them especially when you're still figuring this all out. That's why they get paid the big bucks. :)

I still do the same thing. My Neuro said if it last longer than 24 hours then it may be a relapse. But remember that stress, heat, and getting sick may cause pseudo symptoms. I don't know if anyone's told you about them but they are real symptoms just don't last long. The only thing steroids do is speed up recovery time, there are a lot of side effects that you could experience from the steroids so if the symptoms aren't that bad you can just call and talk to your Neuro and he/she can help you decide if you need them. Hope that helps!

It just takes time living with the disease to figure it out. Your Dr gave you the medical definition of a relapse
