For those who have gone gluten free, how has it impacted you & do you have any advice?
I tried gluten free after I had my daughter. It helped me lose weight and I felt like I had more energy. I'm not sure if it was the gluten free that made me feel better or its because it forced me to cut out a lot of processed foods. I eat some things gluten free and some things I don't. Gluten free is expensive. I was tested for celiac disease and I don't have that marker. I understand that people can have gluten sensitivity without being celiac. I try to eat as clean as possible. Cut down or avoid processed foods and eat more plant based foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, unprocessed whole grains. I eat some lean chicken and turkey and limit dairy. I also take a multivitamin, Vitamin D3 and fish oil pills. I have done a lot of research online. I know I would never follow extremely restricted diets that cut out major food groups. Of all the things I have read, I really like the book Clean Cuisine by Ivy Ingram Larson. Its so doable and I have learned so much about anti -inflammatory foods.
Hope this helps a little.
I am gluten free due to gluten intolerance and wheat allergy. It's helped me tremendously. I've lost 85 pounds and have fewer digestive issues. Also, haven't had reflux since eliminating the gluten 2 year ago. I also think that some of my MS symptoms are not as bad.
I tend not to use many of the packaged g-free products as I still want to lose more weight, but, occasionally, a g-free brownie hits the spot. I like the Betty Crocker brownie and cake mixes that aren't too expensive at Walmart. Also, g-f bisquick makes really good pancakes. Udi's g-f breads (found in the freezer section) are the best-tasting and textured g-f breads I've found. But, like I said, I only eat those kind of things occasionally. Mostly, I eat veggies, meat, berries.
I also have a dairy allergy, so I use coconut oil in place of butter for baking/frying and it makes the baked goods really light in texture. Coconut milk in place of regular milk.
Hope this helps!
For me it had helped tremendously with irritable bowel and fatigue. I love the veggie chips and I am hooked on hummus! I love love live bread so at first it was really hard. I ocassionally eat bread with gluten and feel the effects 3-4 days later.
