I went to the mall today. IT WAS PACKED! And I found myself getting very anxious. It was waaaaaay over stimulating. I had to walk just looking down in order to avoid taking in all the sights and feeling overwhelmed. I felt almost like I was going to have a panic attack - but I've had one before and I know it wasn't that bad. Anyway, was this an MS-related thing or am I just trippin'? I recently read (maybe in this forum) of someone who was saying they get startled much more easily now. I believe… read more

Wow! That is why I love this group of MSrs...I have felt this way at the mall for a few years now. Same with loud noises...feel like all my nerves are just raw. Did not realize it could even be related to my MS! Nice to know I am not crazy (or alone).

I can't take any loud noises. Make me feel like I am going crazy..

I was wondering why I was beginning to not like being in crowds; I always attributed my dislike of many conversations going on at once to my loss of hearing.

I actually found going deaf to be a blessing in disguise because of my over-sensitivity to loud noises. But then, I finally realized I needed hearing aids, and drat, now I can hear almost as well as when i was a child (and was terrified of Thunderstorms, more because of the noise than the lightning). I wouldn't even dream of going to Centurylink Field to watch the Seattle Seahawks live! 'hawks' games are loud even over the radio, so I keep the volume low.

Am also oversensitive to other forms of over-stimulation: reading too much, being on the computer too long... Watching TV doesn't seem to bother me very much.

MS really sucks!

Unfortunately I completely understand all of you. Because i have dept with that for years now. My main solution is very cheap and allows me to extend my comfort envelope... Ear Plugs I carry 4 pairs in cases in my pockets at all times so they are in easy reach and I dont run out mid day. For example if I go from loud and busy environment to quieter where i need to hear better, then back to loud and busy, etc.

Have any of you tried this solution? I thought of it mainly because there are some loud activities that i enjoy where ear plugs are a must so i figured what the hell give it a shot. No pun intended.

@A MyMSTeam Member You may try them as a way to see if your overloading/sensitivity is compounded by audio overload or only/mainly visual. I.e. if ear plugs dont make any difference at all then you know audio is not part of the problem. But if your able to stay longer, look around more, and enjoy yourself. Or better yet if it removes a large amount of the problem it may help in isolating the cause and finding a solution.

Same here, its just too much stimulus going on around me. Its like being surrounded by a dozen loud TVs and trying to pay attention to all of them at once.
