Yesterday cog - fog was so bad after work I hit a 2 ft tall concrete pole in the parking garage and messed up the front bumper on my car. Can anyone else relate? It's like I forgot where I was and how to back out of a parking space!

Members deeply connected over cognitive fog and MS, sharing relatable stories of hitting poles, running red lights, stopping at green ones, and getting lost in familiar neighborhoods. Several members described word-finding struggles, short-term memory lapses, and moments of disorientation while driving, with many choosing to limit or stop driving to protect themselves and others. A recurring theme was the comfort found in community, with members reminding each other to listen to their bodies, seek neurocognitive evaluations, and find humor and grace in the challenges of living with MS.

I lose words, and sometimes I make words up. I do better on the computer than I do when I speak. I lose track of where I am in a discussion, just go blank. I try to laugh about it, but occasionally it is very disturbing. My ability to focus is off and on, and I cannot take the medicines for it because they make me so nervous. It is much worse when I am having a really bad day. I tend to stay in bed on days like that if I can.

I can very much relate as well. Shortly before my dx, I went out one morning, walked past my wife's car, got into my pickup and backed right into the side of her car. Felt like a total knucklehead. Traffic circles are my nemesis. I start going around one, then cars entering and leaving the circle confuse me so badly I can't figure out what to do next. I don't drive much anymore.

I used to be a writer, and still write a lot, but sometimes find myself staring at a group of words I just wrote, trying to figure out if it is a sentence. Often, it is not.

Sometimes I turn on the television and don't recognize the language. Once, for a few seconds, I thought they were speaking Russian. Nope, they were speaking English.

I don't take myself very seriously, so it is a source of amusement for myself and my family. I just roll with it and try to stay out of trouble.

@A MyMSTeam Member - I've had similar run ins with 2' poles & parking lot light bases which were below my line of sight (nothing to do with my MS). But, doing it again several days after having my car repaired could possibly be connected to my brain dysfunction.

Cognitive issues were included in deciding to stop full-time employment & starting SS Disability benefits. Sometimes I can't find the right word to convey what I want to express. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but; my career was in Marketing Communica-tions. I had a great vocabulary but not anymore thanks to MS.

I also suffer from the common malady - CRS. It isn't fun. How am I supposed to determine if my short-term momory loss issues are from the MS or an onset of Alzheimers or Dementia? At least I haven't lost the use of correct grammar - just the correct word.

Also cannot handle thinking through anything complex, illogical or mathematic - hence my being scammed several times over the last 6 months.

Oh well, at least I'm not debilitated, can still walk, drive & live on my own - for now. Think I'm going to adopt positive, optimistic thinking - makes a person more likable & agreeable with others.

I understand you completely. I just ran into my garage as I was backing out and destroyed my side mirror. It's like I just simply forget what I'm doing while I'm doing it. I've had several little mishaps in the past few years. I'm fortunate that none has been serious. I often question if I should still be driving but I do take Ritalin when I'm driving a long distance or to an unfamiliar place.
