A MyMSTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello,
Just another question ... I'm starting tecfidera next week, was wondering what works for everyone to eliminate or help the side effects:. Also I know they say you can have a "drink or so" while taking it... I just wanted to know if anyone else drank a little (socially) while taking it. Also what works best for the "flushing" from the medicine
thank you !!

No one should take Tec without being given the correct process.
1. Make a full meal with carbs and protein.
2. Take a baby asprin.
3. Eat your full meal.
4. Take Tec.
If you get itchy from Tec you can take a Benidryl. Doctors and pamphlets say it doesn't matter if you take with or without food- they're wrong and have no idea, don't listen to that.
My neuro says alcohol isn't supposed to be bad with Tec, but suggested not washing down Tec with a vodka just to be safe. I know Tec can effect the liver so I try to time it well and keep the drinking light.
I am better on Tec. Didn't happen right away, but after a year on Tec, some symptoms have lessened and my toe is finally no longer numb. :-)

Do not take Tecfidera on empty stomach.

I started Tecfidera 10 months ago. I had one spell of flushing that I recall in the beginning along with tummy ache too. The biggest issue I have is BM. I use to go #2 up to 3x a day. Now once a day if I'm lucky. Fiber in my smoothies (pills at night time) & healthy eating now; less dairy, gluten free, lots of water, little to no caffeine and flour & sugar substituted

Did any of you that switched to Tecfliferia feel better physically or see an improvement in your self. This is for anyone that switched from a previous drug.

For the first 10 months or so I was very strict about taking it every 12 hours. Then I read that if you take two at once by accident, you'll be fine, your symptoms will just be doubled up in a really uncomfortable way. After that I figured taking somewhere between 10-14 hours apart was probably fine, and now that I do that, it's still working great for me so I don't see any reason to think otherwise.
