Hi I'm a nurse and have worked with supra catheters, mostly the tube will be right around your navel area, you can attract the catheter tubing to a over night Foley bag or a leg bag for day use if wanted. Some people don't use a bag and they can plug the tube so urine doesn't flow out, and the person can use the bathroom by un plugging the tube. The urine can be a little darker may have a slight odor, make sure you drink a lot of fluids, and empty your leg bag often. You will need to have it changed every 4-6 weeks, it is less painful than a regular catheter. Some male and females may still urinate throw their natural parts, this happens when supra catheter has too much sediment in urine and catheter should be changed or if they have a bowel movement and push too much. Drinking fluids and following a good diet will help. I have seen it benifit a lot of people that can't have a regular catheter, plus it should not be pulled out by accident like the other Catheter. Not sure why you are having one, but sometimes it can be reversed. Hope this helps, the procedure should be same day, or no more than 1. You may qualify to have a home Heath nurse. Your Dr may want to change your catheter him self. I took care of a man with ALS and the first time I ever changed a supra catheter was his first catheter change after his first month after surgery. It really was easy! I would advise you to speak to you Dr before you have it done, write down all questions and take someone with you. I had the supra pubic catheter procedure done late last week and so far I am very happy I did it. After having a Foley for almost two years I am very happy to have it out. I didn't realize how it affected my movement, etc. I feel a bit liberated. My procedure was about one-half hour; went under about 830 in the morning and I was home by noon and I live 50 miles away.

Thanks for the advice. I have a Foley now and with my MS and leg strength problems, transfers to a toilet several times a day to go to the bathroom a normal way may be too much for me. My neurologist suggested this, I met with the urologist she recommended and a found it to be something that I might benefit from. He did say it could be reversed. I think it will be worth my while.
