I've always wondered if it's ever a safe or good idea to get any tattoos with MS. I really want to get a tattoo (well, I honestly want a lot of tattoos that mean something to me), but I'm worried that the needle would hit a sensitive nerve in my body. Any opinions are welcome!
The nerves that are effected by M.S. are in your central nervous system....your brain and your spine. Even though you feel the pain in your leg or foot or arm there is nothing really wrong with your leg, foot or arm. The pain is coming from the nerves in your brain and spine. I wouldn't think that it would make any difference one way or another. Many people are getting their medical alert information tattooed on them instead of wearing a medical alert bracelet or necklace. I'm thinking about having that done that way I can't loose the necklace or bracelet...the info will be permanent.
I've gotten a tattoo, a nose ring and a tongue piercing since being diagnosed and none affected me-call it a diagnosis crisis

Louella I would talk to your Neurologist about tattoos. Let him/her help you make the decision. You're really smart to be checking it out. I'm interested to know the answer. I belong to Group Health, I can just e-mail my Doctor to ask that type of question. Hopefully your Neurologist communicates the same way. Claudia
