Has anyone tried any special diets that have helped? I've heard about the gluten free diet, any results?

Hi @A MyMSTeam Member, I have been on a gluten free/dairy free diet for a few months now and it has helped me tremendously! It was recommended to me by my primary care physician and its made a world of difference. I also started taking a probiotic called: Enzyme Probiotic Complex and that has also helped a lot too. I made changes slowly to my diet..like for cream for my coffee, I was previously using International Delight creamer and I switched to Almond Milk creamer, and for dessert I buy a brand called SO delicious.. they make dairy free milk and desserts that are amazing! I also read a book by Dr. Robynne Chutkan, called Gutbliss and I loved it! I incorporate a lot of her ideas and recipes in my daily eating. I saw her on an episode of Dr. Oz and was immediately drawn to it. I eat eggs in the morning quite often so I now buy Cage Free/Organic eggs and they are awesome. There's another book that is great called 'Eat Dirt' by Dr. Axe. He explains how a lot of auto-immune diseases start in the gut, which totally blew away, and offers a lot of info on eating gluten and dairy free among others! Hope this was helpful!! Let me know if I can be of any more help!

You are right - exercise (cardio, stretching and weights) are vital in staying healthy.

I've been on a gluten and dairy free diet for about five years now, also try hard at avoiding artificial ingredients and preservatives. While stomach/digestion problems have largely cleared up, I think exercise and plenty of rest have helped me most in dealing with this disease

If u look on you tube, diet is the way to cure all auto immune diseases. Dr terry wahls cured herself from ms with diet and she has several videos on you tube. Its all about making ur body alkaline and nonacidic

Gluten free drove me nuts. Tried it when I was first diagnosed 20 years ago. Got out of that program after 2-3 weeks when my Dr encouraged type A me to give up only one or two things at a time. Things like sugar and replacing it with more fruit or steamed carrots drenched in butter as something else sweet. It seems key for me that with time I have found living happily with MS takes just that, and that's time. I am 62 years old, I have a very supportive husband of 34 years and two doting 30 something kids whom I know I should just call terrific young people. In all this time I was fired from my job being told that I had lost my competitive TV edge. I threatened to sue and hired a lawyer and before trial in Federal Court we settled out of court. Since then my RRMS has been quiet. I move slower than I once did but I'm okay with that. I miss my job but in my heart I have forgiven my former employer for letting me go when they learned I had MS and my Drs couldn't predict how the disease would affect me on the job. A sounds silly to me now. Happy marriage, physically active always hopeful and very happy to still be able to use my legs and walk briskly with a cane.
