I'm about to start my first med, Tecfidera. Would love to know peoples thoughts/opinions/reactions? Starting to get a little nervous.
Hi Mandy; I've been on Tecfidera for about a year now and I've been doing pretty well on it. No big side effects which is great. The most I get is flushing in my face and body if I don't eat enough. I feel like it's helped me a lot with limiting symptoms of MS in my body. The biggest problem I've got is numbness in my feet and numbness & heaviness in my legs which makes walking and getting around very difficult. I wish it helped more with fatigue. The Biogen team is really helpful. While you're taking it, if you need any help/advice they are really great. Hope this helps!!
Hi Mandy33, I was on Tecfidera for 6 months. The first two months, lots of flushes, Stomach problems. My neuro suggested to each good fat before taking it, such as avocado, at least a tea spoon of peanut butter, or any other good fat. He also prescribed Singular. to take it once a day for diarrhea , it really helped. At first I thought that he had made a mistake since is an allergy med. He told me that it was used by MS patients and it help. Also for the flushing, he prescribed aspirin, to be taken 1/2 hr before the tecfidera. You could share this with your Neuro and he might share some of this with you. By doing this it was great, all side effect went away.
Now I was switch to Retuxan, because the Tecfidera did not work. I had a flare up and a new lesion, during the treatment. However, we are all react different to all meds. The best thing is to be positive, regardless of med taken, and hope that it works for us. I was very nervous too, is normal since is all unknown to us. Most important we need something to at least slow down this MonSter. BEST OF LUCK , MS FRIEND!
I've been on Tecfidera since it was approved by the FDA. I had the typical side effects (mild) for the first month or two. I haven't had any additional lesions or any lesions get worse since I started taking it. Good luck.
I have been on Tecfidera since May 2014, so far so good , at first when I started I had some nausea issues ,always take this medicine with food , and the only side effect I get now is flushing and itching it's not on a daily basis only on occasion , good luck
I have been on it since March 2015 without any side effects. My neuro ran a large portion of the clinical trail and gave me very specific instructions about what to eat with the pills so that I don't experience side effects and/or can treat them if I do have them. I can provide those to you if you like.
