It is my understanding if you are on SS disability the benefit will not change. If it's SSI marriage will affect the amount!

Social Security, Disability-
is an entitlement that you have, if you have worked the "required" number of years, established by the federal government.
Like taxes, it is a percent of your gross income, that is automatically garnished from your paycheck. Nothing can change your right to it- because, essentially, you paid for it.

Social Security Income (SSI); however,
Is an income-based, state program. It is necessary to "qualify", to receive it from the government. The application takes into account, all income & assets that you have (including spouse's income, childsupport, other income received, assets, etc). I believe that some expenditures affect the decision-- such as: outgoing childsupport obligations, mortgage.
Qualifications for SSI can change on a month to month basis.
Whereas, once a decision is granted in court, for disability- SSDI can't be lost- it can only vary slightly due to increased cost of living; or, if you no longer have dependants.

It does effect suplamental. I know for a fact. Two people with SSDI can get maried with no issues. If one has SSDI and the other suplamental s.s it can effect it. When I got maried my soon to ne ex-wife's check was cut from 700 or so dollars to like 60! It all depends then I guess.

VictoriaC: I do Not think marital status has Any effect on a persons status with Social Security Disability eligibility or Payment. On the other hand I know of two people with Individual Social Security payment only that tell me there is a "marage penalty" that allows them to get More total S.S. by Not being married! This is Not true if your talking S. S. Disability and both spouses are under 67 year old. Tim Johnson @Timbofrog
