Hi, I am trying to gather information about anyone who may have been denied their Social Security benefits AND also had a Private insurer for Short Term / Long Term Disability. If so, did you have to pay what is called a "reimbursement or overpayment"? Did your private insurer pay the fee to the firm that handled your appeal?

In my own situation- I was denied SS benefits in 2011 and also was receiving STD/ LTD benefits from my private insurer Prudential. When my claim moved into the LTD… read more

I myself am on LTD. I 'am also waiting to be seen by a judge. The lawyer I have working for me is from Victory Disability firm. The long awaited BS to be seen in front of a judge is the most annoying part. First being denied twice by a board of people who never met me, talk to me, or know anything about me make the decision if i am eligible for Disability really annoy's me. Now, once i ever get the date to be seen by a judge this will be the first person to see ME as ME. Why is it so hard for us to get approved, we have a disease that has no cure and it only gets worse, not better.

I also went from STD/LTD and Aetna is the one insuring me. Aetna hired ALLSup to go after my SSD. Amazing they got it for me two months later. I was told SSI would go back 1 year if approved. And they would back date my ssi. Then I was to give back to Aetna the 1yr. of ltd money, So now I receive SSD and the difference in LTD. which amounts to what I received before hand. I am now going thru the question I'm a unable to do any job? Aetna has sent me new forms to determine this. I haven't worked since August of 2013. Really don't the have anything better to do than question our health/

So being in HR, here is what I know. If you have private LTD, you need to look at the policy to determine the limits for your plan. For example, the plan I have only covers mental illness for a 2 year period. However, physical diseases get covered for longer - so you need to know what the plan limits are. Second, your private insurer will help you get SSI benefits because that money comes off of what they have to pay, so it is in their interest to be your advocate to get those benefits.

I am currently just starting this process (ie: have LTD a@ the time & they of course had ALLSUP to call me) I have been denied SS and am awaiting to see a judge which ALLSUP is helping me with. They have been very kind thus far...I hope this was not a bad bad decision. At the time my LTD co had them to contact me though so it is kind of out of my hands. That would be such a travesty if they are all in cohoots :(

wow! @A MyMSTeam Member Aetna and Prudential are all the same it seems.. I really think that if someone has a compensatory insurance paying them std/ltd, they will get denied ss the first go round and then immediately get thrown to Allsup... Thanks everyone... you have been really helpful. Mostly for the fact that I do not feel so alone in this mess. :-)
